Pipeline landfall works: lessons from the field

Where a pipeline comes ashore, marine and onshore construction meet, and so do the challenges of both. Pipeline landfall works require careful planning to manage changing ground, tides and the interface between different contractors.

HTC's marine and civil teams have supported landfall and shore approach works, providing trenching, temporary works, marine access and reinstatement. Our experience has shown that early planning and coordination are the keys to success.

Lessons from the field

  • Plan temporary works and marine access early in the project.
  • Agree interfaces between marine, pipeline and civil contractors from the start.
  • Reinstate the shoreline carefully to protect the coastal environment.

Landfall works sit right at the boundary between land and sea. Having marine and civil capability in one team makes that boundary much easier to manage.

Construction Manager, HTC

By combining our floating plant with onshore civil teams, HTC can deliver the full landfall scope as a single package, reducing interfaces and risk for the client.

What's next

We will continue to apply these lessons to future pipeline and marine infrastructure projects, helping clients deliver safe and reliable connections between offshore and onshore facilities.
