Marine piling works Insights

Designing marine piling for Gulf ground conditions

Marine piling in the Gulf brings its own challenges. Ground conditions can change quickly from soft marine sediments to cemented layers and rock, and good foundation design depends on understanding them.

At HTC, piling design starts with a careful review of site investigation data. Our engineers consider pile type, length and installation method together, so that the design can be built efficiently with the equipment available and still achieve the required capacity.

Key considerations

  • Variable ground, including cemented layers and calcarenite.
  • Drivability, installation method and the risk of pile refusal.
  • Corrosion protection for steel piles in an aggressive marine environment.

The best piling design is one that can be built. Bringing installation experience into the design stage saves time, cost and risk on site.

During installation, driving records and load tests are used to confirm the design assumptions, and any variations in ground conditions are reviewed with the designer before work continues.
